GetRight® and Other Download Managers

Some other download manager programs turn off GetRight's click monitoring when they are installed, or just run. To fix, you will need to turn off their browser click monitoring (or uninstall the other download manager), and turn GetRight's back on. (And some have other steps to fix, and things to avoid.)

GetRight 4.2b and higher will detect and offer to perform some of the same fixes for the changes these other download manager programs make to turn off GetRight's settings.

Turning Off The Others:

Go!Zilla(tm). (3.9x Releases) (Earlier versions of Go!Zilla seemed to work much nicer with GetRight; this so far only applies to GoZilla 3.9x.)
  • If GetRight's monitoring is turned on and it is setup as your download manager when Go!Zilla 3.9 is started, Go!Zilla does the following:
    • Turns off GetRight's click monitoring settings.
    • Turns its own click monitoring settings on...even if you'd turned them off earlier.
    • And Deletes GetRight's shortcut from your StartUp Group!
    • No message or confirmation is given by Go!Zilla about any of these changes to your settings. Yes, really. It deletes shortcuts for another program and doesn't even tell you. (And GetRight is not alone, seems to do the same thing for several other tools when they are setup as your download manager as well.)
And GoZilla 3.91 is even worse. It will delete ANY shortcut that contains the word GetRight in the name.
    To Fix:
    • If you start Go!Zilla 3.9, you must then follow the steps below for Turning GetRight Back On. (4.3 and higher will better detect and fix itself.)
    • You must also copy the GetRight Tray Icon back into your StartUp group.
      • Right click the Windows "Start" button, then pick "Open"
      • In the Explorer window, pick "Programs", then "GetRight".
      • Select the "GetRight Tray Icon" item there, then pick the Edit->Copy menu item.
      • Again Right click the Windows "Start" button
      • In the Explorer window, pick "Programs", then "StartUp".
      • Pick the Edit->Paste menu item.
      • So it won't get deleted in the future, you may want to rename the new "GetRight Tray Icon" to be something different, like "Start GetRight".
    Uninstalling:
    • Go!Zilla uninstalls the same as most programs, from the Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove programs.
    • Look for "Go!Zilla".

    NetZip Download Demon(tm).
  • Turns off GetRight's monitoring whenever it is started...even if it is not set to monitor itself. So if it is started, it turns off GetRight. (Not very nice.)
    Fix 1, Uninstalling:
    • Uninstalls the same as most programs, from the Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove programs.
    • Look for "NetZip Download Demon" or "Download Demon".
Fix 2, Stopping It From Starting:
    • Double-Click the Download Demon tray icon (looks like two red Ds in a blue circle.)
    • Pick the "Tools" tab or item, then pick "Options" from the menu that appears.
    • On the "General" tab, uncheck the item about "Load program at startup".
    • Optional, but also may want to uncheck the item about "Enable browser integration".
  • Then do the steps below for turning GetRight back on.

    RealDownload(tm).
  • Just uninstalling RealDownload will do it and is easier than the steps below.
    Uninstalling:
    • Uninstalls the same as most programs, from the Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove programs.
    • Look for "RealDownload".
  • Disabling It
    • It turns off GetRight's monitoring when its own monitoring is turned on.
      Turning Off Its Monitoring:
      • Make sure the RealDownload program is closed, then do the steps below for turning ON GetRight's settings.
      • After that, run the RealDownload program.
      • It will ask about being your default download manager. Uncheck the item about "Always perform this check", then click NO.
      • That should fix it, but if you want to double-check: From the Tools menu, pick the Options item. Then make sure the "Enable browser integration" item is unchecked.
    • It also does write some click monitoring settings when it is started (even if its monitoring is turned off) that conflict with GetRight's monitoring, so can get messages from GetRight that "you will need to close and restart your browser".
Removing from the Windows Startup group:
      • Right click the Windows "Start" button, then pick "Open" from the menu that appears.
      • Then pick "Programs", then "Startup".
      • Delete the "RealDownload" item from the startup group.
      • If you have Windows NT or 2000, might need to repeat and pick "Open All Users" in the first step instead of "Open".

  • Turning GetRight Back On:

  • Right click the GetRight tray icon.
  • Pick the Tools, then Configuration items from the menu that appears.
  • Switch to the "Monitor" tab (OR click the Next button to get to the "Web Browsers" page if you are using the wizard for setting up GetRight.)
  • Check the boxes for Netscape and/or Internet Explorer to turn GetRight's monitoring back on.
  • Click OK, (OR the Next button to get to the finish if you are using the wizard for setting up GetRight.)
